It’s on us as adults to teach children... x

We live in a society where getting an education is dangerous for women. The first thing I got for college? Mace.
Women in college and all over the world are being encouraged to learn self defense. Don’t walk alone. Don’t leave your drink. Don’t wear short skirts.
How about teaching men not to take advantage of women? Men are constantly thrown ideas of manliness that includes objectifying women. Rape is laughed at over beer and words like “maybe if you get her drunk enough” are spoken too often. I shouldn’t have to feel scared walking by myself or wearing my favorite dress. Rape jokes aren’t funny. Blurred lines of consent shouldn’t be sung on the radio. I know this is already a popular opinion and I’m not making any new waves, but with the recent disappearance of Hannah Graham, it’s been on my mind. It’s a shitty world we live in, but it doesn’t have to be that way.

If you live in Virginia, please be familiar with Hannah’s picture and keep your eyes open. Please keep her and her family in your prayers.

I wish people didn’t think silence was awkward, just enjoy it. Not every space has to be filled with words.
